Where is Edogawa?
Edogawa is one of the 23 wards of Tokyo. Located at the eastern end of Tokyo's 23 wards, it faces Arakawa-ku to the north, Sumida-ku and Katsushika-ku to the west, and Tokyo Bay to the south. It is adjacent to Chiba Prefecture across the Edogawa River, providing easy access from central Tokyo. The Toei Shinjuku Line, Tozai Line, and Keisei Main Line run through the district, providing convenient access to central Tokyo and Chiba.
As for access from Haneda Airport, it takes about 60 minutes to Koiwa Station by limousine bus. By train, take the monorail from the airport to Hamamatsucho Station, then take the JR Yamanote Line to Akihabara Station. From Akihabara Station, transfer to the Sobu Line and get off at Koiwa Station. The trip takes about 80 minutes.
Charm and History of Edogawa
The abundance of nature in Edogawa Ward is so great that it is hard to believe that it is in the heart of the city. The ward is dotted with parks of various sizes, offering beautiful scenery in each of the four seasons. In particular, cherry blossoms bloom beautifully in the spring and autumn leaves can be enjoyed in the fall. Along the Edogawa River, which runs along the east side of the district, there are walking paths lush with greenery, where you can take a leisurely stroll while listening to the murmur of the river.
The name "Edogawa" comes from the name of the river created by flood control works during the Edo period (1603-1868). The history of Edogawa Ward reveals that the area has been subject to repeated flooding during the Edo period, and flood control projects shaped the current course of the Edogawa River. Because of this historical background, preparations for flood damage can be seen in various parts of the ward. In addition, rice cultivation has flourished in Edogawa Ward, which is located in a low-lying area, since ancient times. Even today, rice fields can be seen in some parts of the ward.
